Confession
I am writing this, just to give my personal insight in the Organisation which we all have been involved in. I am compressing my write up to as short as possible, only putting in the salient points. I am very sad to see that this has happened, I take part of the blame, (or maybe all) and if there is anything that I can do to assist, I shall do so willingly. I shall be putting in writing to the top management on my desire to resign leave the Organisation when the time is right. Sometime after Christmas, I wrote an e-mail to our Head Office expressing my concern about the Account and the Licence. It was more of a reminder, and at that time I did not want it to reach the ears of the top management at the Head Office. I was expressing an opinion that without the account being ready and closed the Organisation will not be given the Contract Licence and therefore my position with the Organisation is quite unproductive to the tune of being useless. Then I may like to withdraw my services. On top of that I was also not back to being well, having just been hospitalised over a period of over two months since mid-October. Only later I told the Head Offioce to reveal the content of my e-mail to the top management. And just prior to that I saw an e-mail from the local office addressed to me expressing concern about not being able to communicate with the Head Office and also expressing concern about the future of the Organisation. I answered that as best as I could then without making any real commitment. What followed was an unexpected even to our Head Office when the key staff over there encountered a serious personal problem. The Organisation had been following a very challenging path since I joined. There was still no solution to the problems created by the previous management. Staff then were agitated and the office staff at the local office were of no help. Then followed by problems with products supply, negotiation with the anchor customer who was not sure of the new management at the local office. And to make matters worse there was the mass resignation of staff at the local office when the Organisation had to counter that by recruiting new staff. Then the office Executive at local office resigned, a new Executive had to be recruited. Some outside parties were also brought in to assist in the operations of the Organisation, local and overseas. But both failed to be interested due to our own folly. Meanwhile two very important factors were not attended to properly, the account which needed a proper Accountant to close the annual accounts and the expiry of the Contract Licence. At that time it was realised that these two were related but it soon was discovered also that without the former the latter could not be obtained. What followed was that the Accountant was appointed, two years ago, and surprisingly until today the annual accounts have yet to be closed. Lately, it was informed that the account up to 3 years ago will be closed by the end of March this year, then to be followed by the accounts up 2 years ago and then the last years account. Presumably it will be easier to close the accounts for the two years as most of the documents are in the Head Office and in the local office. One additional challenge the Organisation had to face was that the lead and key person in the Organisation fell ill last year, with unknown cause and not able to report to work efectively. Then of I was hospitalised which made the situation worse. Without the Contract Licence, the Organisation was not able to be awarded any job by the anchor customer, and without income, exhausting all its reserves. Though minor jobs were obtained but the resultant income was not able to cover the expenditure. Thus the deterioration in the financial standing. I do not know what had happened at the Head Office and on how it managed this depleting reserve and I also could not help in the local office due to my unhelpful health. Thus the rot set in. I was woken up from my unhelpful and hopeless situation when I was asked to see the top management at the Head Office. I was told of the 'drowning' situation and was asked to give opinion on how to do the salvage work. Not being able to convince the top management at the Head Office earlier when I first came into the Organisation on the urgent need of the closing of the annual accounts, and the urgent need of the obtaining of the Contract Licence, I was hopelessly inadequate at trying to resolve the current rot which has set in the Organisation. The Organisation now I understand is being restructured. But with empty treasury, I cannot imagine how best can anyone try to manage the Organisation.Maybe an outside party can be made interested as I am in the opinion that the Organisation has a good future. The Organisation has got a good track record, good set of staff, dedicated and loyal, and it still has the confidence of the anchor customer despite all the problems it faces. And it has got assets, unique and specialised equipment. And politically it has strength. | | Wednesday, February 23rd, 2005 | | 7:51 am |
Indian Restaurants.
Indian restaurants in Malaysia seem to be doing roaring business. Many are opened and they get bigger and bigger everyday. And they open other branches in town once they are successful. The menu in these restaurants seems to be quite standard, hot and cold drinks the most famous of course is teh-tarik. But you can get other drinks as well, just ask for any of them. To note that you cannot get any hard liquor. And the menu? Rice and curry are the basic, but the curry are of various types - yes varieties of them. And you can get tosai, capatis, roti-canai puree and even bread and butter. Their specialties? Its nasi briani (briani rice) - and in some nasi-kandar.. But beware, most of these Indian food are very oily and probably high in cholesterol. They use a lot of ghee and oil in their cookings. Except probably for chicken tikka, nan and capati or maybe tosai. And their workers, mostly Indians (I cannot tell the difference really if they are Indians from Malaysia or imported from India, Bangladesh or Pakistan). They used to employ Indon but they have stooped that practice, at least mostly but I still see some Indon being employed to serve. No harm really as long as these imported workers are legally imported. So if you are in Malaysia, the easiest and the most tasty food you can get are from Indian Restaurants. At least we call them Indian but we do not really know if they are Indian or Pakistani or whatever race they are, or I suppose all of them are Malaysians. | | Friday, February 18th, 2005 | | 11:51 am |
Foxed
The other night at a party someone mentioned about an animal seen scurrying along the common eve of terrace houses in an area in KL. Someone said it was a fox. But on thinking about it, I am more inclined to think that it was a civet cat. But in reality I can hardly tell the difference between the two. In fact I have seen the animal on a mango tree near my house in KL. Its slow moving perching on the tree, and eating the mango fruits, so I gathered. But it can climb and have strong claws. And it peed on seeing people. Either frightened or indicating its territorial boundary. My neighbor's wife complained to my wife that the animal seemed to get into her ceiling and had made a lot of noise, and probably giving birth to 'kittens' over there. Scratching the top of her ceiling board she said. And my wife claimed that she had seen some droppings of the animal on the eve of our roof at the back. Whatever it is, I am really not concerned. Animals being what they are, they just have to survive. Especially now with all the trees in the jungle (and town) being cut down. So they have made human houses as their habitat. So what?. As long as I don't touch them or disturb them I think that they are not dangerous. Its our faults really. | | Wednesday, February 16th, 2005 | | 9:58 pm |
Lost
Can one really get lost from this world without a trace? I really wonder. One of the girl in the office lost her husband, I mean lost, disappeared, elope? NO, lost without a trace, even his friends do not know what happened to him. And his car, also disappeared. The Police says it may be a case of unpaid debts, I mean unable to pay debts - but that is not possible, he was quite successful in his career, so it seems. They found some of his papers though, his ID card, his credit card in a small town up north. Could he be taken across the border? Could it just be a mistaken identity? Many may make many guesses, but no one can really tell what happened to him. And his wife is worried sick, I mean if she is not worried, what sort of wife is she? And pity the children, they just do not understand what is happening. Lost? Killed? Dissolved in some solvent - it takes quite a strong solvent to dissolve a man. Killed and thrown into a well? The smell of rotten flesh will soon tell. Killed and buried? Too obvious, someone will find the grave sooner or later. Graveyards are located at specific places, so he cannot be buried in a graveyard. Its real mystery. I thought it is wise I do not pay a visit to the wife, she is too distraught. Other than expressing my sympathy, what positively can I do? Many have expressed their sympathy, and the case is yet to be resolved. How do I know about the case. A friend IM me about 1 week ago. I SMS a friend who shares the same office as her (and I, and I rarely go to the office as I am retired now and also have some other activities). He could not confirm then. Today he called me after he contacted another girl at the office. He said that the news even came out in the local press (I did not read that, but I do not really read the local press as they carry too many political news which I do not like). The newspapers even printed the wife's picture so I was told by the same office girl when I contacted her later on today. Its a real mystery. And yet to be resolved. | | Tuesday, February 15th, 2005 | | 10:34 am |

beach, calm, clean, wide and no crowd. calm sea, clean white sand, wide beach, no crowd. but the sea can be misleading. during this long public holiday period in Malaysia - 4 days and the weekend (chinese new year and beginning of muharram) the sea has taken about 6 lives and a few are still missing. not on this beach, but about 100 km north of this beach, in the east coast of peninsular malaysia. | | Friday, February 11th, 2005 | | 5:19 pm |
